Trailer Brake Controller That Can Be Used with Towed Vehicle Braking System

Question:

I have a 16 Jeep JK wrangler with an auxiliary brake that I plan to replace with the SM99251. Our tow vehicle is a 15 MB Sprinter 3500. The current toad braking system is wired to the Sprinter brake controller plug under the front seat to a Hopkins controller mounted on the lower dash. The Sprinters 7 pin plug connects to a 7 pin that I mounted on the Jeeps front bumper. Is it possible that the SM99251 toad brake will communicate with the brake controller installed in the Sprinter and display when the toad brake is depressed? Thanks for any advice you may offer regarding this set up.

Expert Reply:

A standard trailer brake controller that mounts in the tow vehicle to power trailer brakes cannot interface with a separate supplementary vehicle braking system but there is one product we offer, the Brake Buddy Stealth Supplemental Braking System # HM39530, that combines both a trailer brake controller and a vehicle braking system in one setup. The linked video will give you a recap of the system's components and also its capabilities. This item is a confirmed fit on your 2016 Wrangler.
