Would Trailer Hitch on 2019 Jeep Cherokee Cause Check Engine Light To Go On

Question:

The exhaust is flush against the trailer hitch. The car sounds louder, but today I had flashing red lighting bolt come on with check engine light. Would that cause a problem. We had to lower the exhaust to get it in. I have a 2019 Jeep Cherokee latitude plus, we bought the Curt 3 multi-fit trailer hitch. I think 13900 model.

A trailer hitch will absolutely not cause any type of check engine light to go on - that will be something completely separate on your vehicle.

The only Curt hitches that fit a 2019 Jeep Cherokee are the Curt Trailer Hitch # C13171 and Curt Trailer Hitch # C13395 though I was unable to find which one you have as I could not locate an order number for you. Though both of these hitches sit in front of the exhaust, neither will affect your check engine light and you should definitely have this looked at by a mechanic.
