Everything that I see seems to indicate that the 2008 Nissan Pathfinder came with a factory installed 7-Way trailer connector. So it could be that yours was converted to a 4-Way at some point and all you will need to do is get the factory 7-Way re-installed by the dealer and then add the brake controller and wiring harness.
For a brake controller, I recommend the Tekonsha P2, # 90885 which is the newer version of the popular Prodigy that you have referenced. It is our most popular controller because it is easy to set up and easy to use. The correct wiring adapter is # 3050-P.
If your Pathfinder never had a 7-Way and is not set up for it from the factory, you will need # ETBC7. Your 4-Way will plug into the ETBC7 trailer connector and you will need to hardwire the remaining 4 wires.
White = ground to vehicle frame
Purple = reverse lights and connects to reverse light circuit on vehicle
Black = 12 volt power, use black wire in duplex cable to connect to battery via 40 amp circuit breaker
Blue = trailer brakes, connects to blue wire on the brake controller
I have included a link to an FAQ article and a link to a video that should help should you end up needing to hardwire the 7-Way and brake controller.
