Is A Bit Of Play In The Adjustable Shank and Head Assembly Normal With Curt C17062

Question:

I recently bought a 2016 F150 with the factory towing package. My question has to do with play in the shank. When I slide the Curt adjustable ball mount shank from the Round Bar Distribution Hitch kit 17062 into the trucks receiver, I notice play up and down and side to side. I also noticed, I have play between the ball mount head assembly and the adjustable shank of the distribution hitch. Is play acceptable in either the receiver or the ball mount head assembly? Could something be wrong with the adjustable shank? If play is acceptable, how much. If not any suggestions for a remedy. Thank you.

I contacted the tech at Curt regarding the play in the adjustable shank of your Curt MV Weight Distribution System part # C17062 and he said a little bit of play or tolerance is completely normal. The same goes for the ball assembly on the adjustable shank. As long as the bolts are properly inserted you have nothing to worry about.

To help with the annoying rattle noise you can use a Roadmaster Quiet Hitch part # RM-061 to tighten up the slack. When you use the Quiet Hitch with a weight distribution system you position the U-bolt around the top of the hitch receiver and place the bar on the bottom of the weight distribution shank. Basically the opposite of the original instructions. I have attached a photo for reference except the U-bolt will be upside down on your setup.
