Can the 40 Amp Redarc BCDC Battery Charger be Used with Dual Starting Batteries in Ford Super Duty

Question:

The specs for the Redarc BCDC1240D list the input current maximum as 40 amps. I have a Ford Superduty with the 6.0 diesel, dual starting batteries in parallel and dual alternators putting out a combined 390 amps. Is it still possible for me to use this charger? I want to use my vehicle to charge a pair of Lifeline GPL-6CT 6 volt 300ah camper batteries wired in series. I also plan to install 510 watts of solar panels to charge the camper batteries when the truck engine isnt running. The Redarc BCDC1240D seems like a good choice, but the input current limit worries me.

I reached out to my contact at Redarc and he said that the 40 Amp Redarc In-Vehicle BCDC Battery Charger # 331-BCDC1240D is exactly what you need for your application. This unit will give you 40 Amps to your battery bank and can accommodate up to 600 watts from solar panels so you are good there. In regards to the input current my contact said that there will be no issues with the alternators you have on your Ford Super Duty.
