Options to Vent a Storage Compartment on an RV

Question:

Hi, Just installed solar on my RV and used a storage bin on the lower side to mount the inverter and solar controllers. I need to dissipate the heat that builds up. The compartment is about 20” wide and has a metal door. I’m thinking there are two ways to do this. One is to cut a hole or two in the door but I’m worried about water from wheel spray and driving rain allowing water into the compartment. The second thing I’m thinking of would be a small fan mounted on the top of the compartment with a short exhaust hose aimed down that would not allow water spray into the compartment. What do you think?

I actually like your first idea better because we have trailer vents that you can install on your door to help keep water spray away from the internal components. Our selection ranges from battery box vents like part # A10-3300BK-05 to ventilator like part # PLR20 to wall vents like part # HMAV2-AVT2. These options will not only help to give you ventilation while protecting your solar setup from the elements but they will also help to give you a clean looking installation. I recommend installing 2 vents and that one of them be installed higher than the other to help promote better airflow.

Attached are some links to our enclosed trailer vent selections as well as some review videos for the vents mentioned above.
