Can Dexter 6,000 Lb Electric Brake Kit Be Used On A 5,200 Lb Axle
Question:
Can these 6k brakes be used on a 5.2k axle?
asked by: Eric
Expert Reply:
Yes, the brake assemblies part # 23-105-106 can be used on a 5.2k axle as long as the mounting flange bolt pattern is 5-bolts, the wheel size is 14-1/2", 15" or 16" and your existing hubs are 12" hubs. You will also need mounting bolts and hardware for 12" brake assemblies part # BRKH12.
The only issue you may run into using brakes rated higher than the axle capacity is they could be too aggressive. However this can be overcome by adjusting the brakes themselves and/or turning down the power output on the brake controller.
