Solutions for Lowering 5th Wheel Trailer to Hook Up to Demco Recon Hitch on Ram Truck
Question:
I have a Ram 2018 srw 4x4 , Demco Recon-Demco ram rails and Reese Sidewinder. My problem is the RV sets too high. It is about 9inch from trailer to bed of the truck. I really like the hitch and the sidewinder. What options do I have to lower the RV?

The first thing you can do is see if you can lower the Sidewinder pin box on the trailer. Most trailers feature a few different possible mounting holes for the pin box so check to see if you can adjust its mounting position in order to lower the nose for a level hook up.
Next make sure you have the Demco Recon 5th Wheel Hitch # DM8550043 adjusted to its highest setting. The Recon can be adjusted to a height of 15-1/2 inches, 17-1/4 inches and 18 inches.
If that doesn't do the trick then you can also check to see if the leaf springs on the trailer are positioned above the axles. If this is the case then you can use an Over-Under Conversion Kit like the Dexter # K71-384-00 for 2-3/8 inch round axles or # K71-385-00 for 3 inch round axles to move them below the axles. This will lower the trailer by the height of the axle and spring stack.
