Question:

I have a 2006 Ford f-550 chassis cab without a flatbed and I have a gooseneck hitch installed on a curt plate, but I need a 5th wheel hitch, I cant seem to find anything specific for 34 inch wide frame. What are my options?

There is a solution for you to pull a fifth wheel trailer with your 2006 Ford F-550 cab and chassis, but because it does not have an actual bed, there is no way to mount a fifth wheel hitch. What this means is you will need to use an adapter, and there are a number of options for you.

The best option will be the Reese Goose Box, which replaces the pin box on your fifth wheel trailer and gives you the best towing experience due to its air bag and shock absorbers which smooth out your ride. These are direct replacements for your pin box:

- Reese Goose Box 5th-Wheel-to-Gooseneck Air Ride Coupler Adapter # RP94716-61301 (16,000 lb capacity) replaces Lippert 0115, 1116 and 1716 pin boxes.

- Reese Goose Box 5th-Wheel-to-Gooseneck Air Ride Coupler Adapter # RP85FR (20,000 lb capacity) replaces Lippert 1621, 1621HD, and 0719 pin boxes.

The other option will be an adapter which bolts to the king pin on your fifth wheel trailer and connects to your gooseneck ball to tow your trailer. The Convert-A-Ball Cushioned 5th-Wheel-to-Gooseneck Adapter # CAB-C5G will work so long as the measurement from the top of your gooseneck ball to the base of your king pin box is between 12" and 16". This adapter has a 20,000 lb capacity with a 4,000 lb pin weight capacity and fits standard 2-5/16" hitch balls. There is also a version of this adapter with a 7-1/2" offset for short beds, part # CAB-C5GX1216.

The other adapter, the Ranch Hitch Universal 5th-Wheel-to-Gooseneck Coupler Adapter # AM3100 will work so long as the measurement from the top of your gooseneck ball to the base of your king pin box is between 11-3/4" and 14-3/4". This adapter also works with 2-5/16" gooseneck balls and has a 24,000 lb capacity and 6,000 lb pin weight capacity. There is also a version of this adapter with an 8" offset, part # AM3139.

I have added links to video reviews for you to check out, as well as a help article on towing a fifth wheel trailer with a gooseneck hitch I recommend taking a look at.
