Recommended Cargo Carrier for Long Trip Without Speed Rating

Question:

I drive down to Florida 2 times a year from NC and wanted to use this to pack my over night stuff for my overnight stop point drive in Miami before driving down to Marathon FL. If I loaded to even 200 lbs Id be shocked... So what is the speed limit I can drive with this- The FL Turnpike is 70 mph posted and people drive 75 to 80 all the time,,,, I need something that can handle going 70 mph for 5 to 8 hrs of driving... with around 200 lbs loaded in it Suggestions ???

There is definitely a cargo carrier which you can use, though the MaxxTow Cargo Carrier MT70108 actually has a sticker on it which says not to exceed 55 mph.

Instead of this carrier I recommend the Curt Cargo Carrier # C18145 which has no such speed restrictions and like the MaxxTow is lightweight at just 29 lbs. The Curt carrier has a 500 lb capacity when used in a 2" hitch like yours and even comes with an anti-rattle bolt to keep the carrier firmly in your hitch while minimizing any type of rattling. It would certainly not hurt to add the Curt Cam Buckle Stabilizing Strap # 18050 as well to optimize the stabilization of the cargo carrier in your hitch. This will allow you to drive to Florida as peacefully as possible.

The best cargo bag to use with this carrier is the etrailer Cargo Bag # e98990, which has 6 straps that allow it to secure to Curt Cargo Carrier # C18145.

I have added links to video reviews of the Curt carrier, straps and cargo bag for you to check out.
