Trailer Brakes Lock Up with Brake Pedal No Matter Brake Controller Settings

Question:

I have a 2007 Dodge Ram 1500 - it came standard with a 4 plug. I bought the agility break controller and adapter for my truck. Hooked up easily no problems - but after I hooked up the 7 prong trailer plug and wired the remaining wires - my trailer breaks locked up everytime I braked. Adjusting the controller settings didn’t help at all. I’m thinking there isn’t the proper wire under my truck to hook into the blue wire for my electric breaks. Is there any easy fix ? Every wire under the back of my truck I try sends a constant 12v

The first thing you will want to do is test the brake output wire on the back of the brake controller once severed and then at the 7-way with only the brake pedal depressed. There should only be very low voltage in either of these locations. If you get high voltage at the back of the brake controller then there is most likely an internal short so it will need to be replaced for which I recommend part # 90885 with part # 3020-P. If you get low voltage at the back of the brake controller but high voltage at the brake output pin on the 7-way then you most likely have a short on the brake output wire and this will need to be replaced for which I recommend part # 10-1-1.

If you get low voltage at the brake output pin on the 7-way then the issue is on your trailer which means you either have a shorted wire or the braking assemblies just need adjusted.
