Recommended Base Plates To Use with the Roadmaster Sterling All Terrain on 2016 Chevy Colorado Z71

Question:

I have a 2016 Chevy Colorado, 4WD, Z71, Crew Cab. I want to use the roadmaster sterling tow bar because I have a concern for weight as I am close to my GCVW and the sterling weighs 20 lbs less than the steeI tow bars. So Im trying to figure out what baseplate I need for my vehicle. First, I dont understand what adaptive cruise control means. My manual does not make a reference to this term although the vehicle does have cruise control. The sterling comes with integral safety cables but in the description of the sterling it states that these cannot be used with roadmaster base plate RM 523182-5 and additional cables will be necessary. So I want to know what base plate I can order that will take advantage of the cables already included with the sterling? Also is the cross bar required? I have seen videos of the sterling w/o the cross bar and that would make the installation much cleaner IMO. Thanks for your help

The adaptive cruise control (ACC) feature will adjust your speed while in the cruise control mode when an object traveling at a lower speed is detected in front of you. This was not a very popular option but if you call your dealer they will be able to tell you whether or not you have this. If you do then it will need to be removed in order to flat-tow the vehicle because the sensor locations interfere with where the base plate kits mount.

For a base plate kit, the only option that will allow you to use the safety cables included with the Roadmaster Sterling All Terrain Tow Bar part # RM-576 is the Roadmaster Crossbar-Style Base Plate Kit part # RM-523182-4 so this is what I recommend. The issue you will have with using the Roadmaster Direct-Connect Base Plate Kit part # RM-523182-5 is that there would be nowhere to attach the safety cable because they are mounted on the crossbar of the Roadmaster Sterling All Terrain Tow Bar which is not used with the Roadmaster Direct-Connect Base Plate Kit. I have attached a photo to help clarify. If you wanted to use the Roadmaster Direct-Connect Base Plate Kit with the Roadmaster Sterling All Terrain Tow Bar then your only option would be to use a separate set of safety cables, the Roadmaster 64" Single Hook, Straight Safety Cables part # RM-645.

The Roadmaster Crossbar-Style Base Plate Kit uses a crossbar whereas the Roadmaster Direct-Connect Base Plate Kit does not.
