Availability of a Trailer Wiring Harness To Fit A 1986 Nissan D21 Hardbody Truck
Question:
I have a 1986 Nissan 2wd hardbody D21 6cyl pickup. I bought a 5x10 utlility trailer that is already wired, however my truck is not. Im trying to find a connector pigtail to where I dont have to splice the wires on my truck to the trailer. Is there a connector set I can buy? or do I have to splice?

If you have the mid-year 1986.5 Nissan Hardbody that has the two large headlights rather than the four smaller lights on the older model, you can use the Hopkins Plug-in Simple Wiring Harness, part # HM43505, to install a 4-Way at the rear of your vehicle.
The # HM43505 wiring harness will plug into the back of your vehicle's taillights. I am including a link to the installation instructions on the # HM43505 wiring harness.
If your vehicle is not the 1986.5 or newer model, you will need to hardwire the trailer connector to your vehicle. This will require you to splice the wires to your wiring harness.
If your vehicle has separate turn and stop lights (3-wire system) you will use the Curt Taillight Converter, part # C56175. If you have combined turn and brake lights (2-wire system) you will need the Draw-Tite 4-Way Wiring Kit, part # 18252. I am including links to both of the wiring harnesses being installed in a vehicle to give you an idea of what is involved in the installation.
