The fuse you found in the engine compartment is used to protect the 12-volt accessory power feed to the trailer connector. Since your Liberty was not equipped with the factory installed 7-way, this circuit is inactive.
Some Jeep Liberty models that were factory equipped with the 7-way trailer connector had some of the wiring in place that ran from the rear of the vehicle up to behind the dash for installing a brake controller, but the wiring will not be present in your vehicle and the brake controller would need to be hardwired using our # ETBC7 Brake Controller Install Kit.The kit contains everything needed to install the controller, including the adapter to convert the 4-pole connector you installed to a 7-way.
If you do not already have a brake controller, I would recommend the Tekonsha Prodigy P2, part # 90885. The P2 is very easy to use, offers smooth, safe and predictable braking, and is our most popular brake controller.
The installation procedure used for the install kit is explained in the instruction link I have provided. I will link you to an install video showing the kit being used to install a brake controller. The video shows a different vehicle, but the procedure would be very similar for your Liberty.
When you have to tap the red brake controller wire into the brake stoplight switch wire, the wire you are looking for is located at the top of the brake pedal and is typically white in color with a tan stripe. We recommend using a circuit tester, like part # PTW2993 to confirm that this wire only shows voltage when the brake pedal is pressed.
