How to Activate 7-Way Functions On 2017 Nissan Titan XD
Question:
I have a 2017 Nissan Titan Xd that has a after market trailer wiring installed and when I hook up to my trailer I don’t have left hand turn signal or brake lights and it’s not charging the batteries of the trailer is this a issue I can fix?

It sounds like the aftermarket wiring did not come with the relays needed to activate the functions of the 7-way on your 2017 Nissan Titan XD. If you have not already done this you want to check to make sure the relays are inserted in the correct positions of the power distribution box under the hood. I was not able to find the exact locations in our owner's manual but I have attached a video that shows installing the relays. If you do not have these relays, I recommend the Curt Relay Kit part # C57000 to activate the 12V and other functions on the Nissan.
If you already have the relays, I recommend testing the functions of the 7-way plug at the rear of Titan with a circuit tester part # PTW2992. I have attached a diagram that shows the pin orientation of a standard 7-way plug. Have a friend activate the functions while you test for turn signals, brake and the 12V power circuit. If you are not getting power to these functions then you know the issue is most likely on the vehicle's side. If you do not get power from the plug you want to disconnect the aftermarket plug from the vehicle's round wiring harness.
Test the circuits on the vehicle's wiring harness for power. If you are not getting power there and the relays are okay you may need to wire a new 7-way into the vehicle all the way up to battery of the Nissan. If you get power at the vehicle's wiring harness and not the aftermarket 7-way plug then the 7-way plug needs to be replaced. I recommend to replace it with Hopkins plug part # N40975.
If you getting power at the circuits on the vehicle's 7-way harness then you know the problem is the trailer side wiring. It is a good idea to check the trailer side wiring over for frayed or damaged wiring. You may need to replace the connector on the trailer side. Check it for corrosion or bent pins. Please let me know if you follow these steps and you are still having an issue with the functions however I honestly think the relays may be the missing component here.
