Vehicle Wiring Requirements to Use Curt Echo Wireless Brake Controller C51180
Question:
I just bought a former uhaul box truck. It does NOT have a brake controller in it. It DOES have a 7 prong round plug on the back. I want to use my Curt Echo Brake Controller on it. What do I need to do to make sure there is power to the plug on the back? Thanks.

All your truck needs to use the Curt Echo Mobile Trailer Brake Controller # C51180 is a functioning 7-way to provide 12V operating power, and of course to pass lighting signal to the trailer.
If you refer to the linked image you'll see that the pin at the 1:00 position on the vehicle socket carries the 12V auxiliary power feed to operate the Echo. You can check this for functionality by using a simple circuit tester like # PTW2992. Ground the tester to the ground pin at 7:00 and apply the probe to the 1:00 pin to test.
Some vehicle wiring systems will always send 12V power to this pin but others may be key-controlled so you'll want to try turning the key on if you do not detect power initially.
The only other thing you need to use the Echo is your compatible smartphone which serves as display and controller.
