Recommended Sway Control for 2019 Kia Sorento Pulling Airstream Trailer

Question:

I have a 2019 16foot Airstream Sport and a 2019 Kia Sorento EX. Can this vehicle handle a weight distribution kit while pulling the Airstream? I understand the construction of the vehicle has unibody construction. Will I be happy with just a sway hitch? I really want a weight distribution kit. I am a novice at pulling a trailer and want all the best items. Please provide suggested items and advise if Kia Sorento EX will work.

To add sway control to your setup your best option is going to be with a friction sway bar like the excellent Reese # 83660. This will do a really nice job of using friction to stiffen up the connection between the trailer and your Sorento to help keep everything in line on the highway.

Your Airstream Sport is relatively light so this really should be enough to give you a nice, comfortable ride.

I tracked down an online version of the owner's manual for your 2019 Kia Sorento EX and I could not find any information with regards to using a weight distribution system. With that being said, all of the custom hitches we have available for your Sorento are not rated for this use. Typically when a custom trailer hitch isn't rated for use with a weight distribution system it's because the vehicle it's designed to fit shouldn't be used with one.

With this in mind, unless you find information in your copy of the owner's manual that says otherwise, I don't recommend using a full weight distribution system.

If the Airstream is equipped with electric brakes another really good solution is with the Tucson # 335TSC-1000. This installs on your trailer frame and ties into your electrical wiring. It essentially reduces side-to-side movement automatically by sending short pulses of power to the appropriate brake assemblies to correct any movement.

I have attached a short video review that you can check out as well.
