Recommended Weight Distribution System Over Ball Mount for Lightweight Camping Trailer

Question:

I have a 2005 toyota tacoma v6 double cab, max towing capacity is 6500 and max gross vehicle weight is 5450. Will be hauling a Jayco jayfeather, unloaded vehicle weight is 3610, dry hitch weight 440, gross vehicle weight rating 4750. Will a ball mount be suitable or do i need a weight distribution hitch.

When a trailer weight is more than 50% of your vehicle weight a weight distribution system is recommended. This will not only help with any possible rear sag on your Tacoma, but the greatest impact will likely be in the sway control. The light trailers with big wind gusts and passing vehicles can have you white knuckling your steering wheel quickly.

My recommendation for your trailer and truck is the Reese Strait-Line Weight Distribution System w Sway Control # RP66083. This is the best system to combat sway by actively keeping your trailer in line with your truck. The hot rolled spring bars have constant pressure on the dual cams to sit in the groove on straightaways and overcome the cams on turns prior to reengaging. I've attached a couple of videos to assist.

This system requires a hitch ball like # A-90 for a 2 inch diameter ball or # 19286 for a 2-5/16 inch diameter ball.
