Using a Circuit Tester from Wiring Harness Kit to Determine Wire Connections on 2019 Hyundai Tucson

Question:

My Tuscan isn’t set up the way you described above. I have the tail and brake together and a separate light for the turn signal. Also, everything in the back of the vehicle is either plastic or painted. How do I get a ground? Each light has two wires I don’t know which one to use.

The 4-Pole Trailer Connector and Installation Kit # C59496 comes with a basic circuit tester that has an alligator clip on one end that connects to a ground like the metal frame on your vehicle. Then you will use the sharp point to insert into the wire connection while you run one lighting function at a time. The LED bulb will light to reflect the function it sees on that wire. You can see this in the attached video at the 2:00 mark.

The green wire will connect to the passenger side turn signal, the yellow wire to the driver side turn signal, the brown to the running light on either side. The red wire if you have a separate stop lamp bulb will connect to that wire and if not will connect to ground on your vehicle frame to tell the module you have combined turn and stop wires. I've attached a video to assist.

The Tekonsha T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # 118501 is the custom fit for your 2019 Hyundai Tucson and it confirms you do have combined turn and brake lights with a separate running light. Make sure you have someone hit your brake pedal for you as you test that feature with your test light. The # 119147KIT will work just fine for your vehicle but you will need to make the manual connections. If you prefer to have the custom connections then I recommend using the harness made custom for your vehicle. As far as a ground location, plastic won't work, but many painted surfaces will work just fine. If you have issue with a painted surface, use some sand paper and then you can use grease or paint after the connection to deter any corrosion. You will need that ground connection or a jump wire from another location to the vehicle frame to allow you to test your wires for the functions.
