Is Replacing Hydraulic Brake System on Trailer Easier than Converting to Electric
Question:
i have an trailer that the brakes havent worked, it doesnt hold fluid and I believe the system needs to be replaced. I am thinking replacing everything, what would be best and most economical, electric or hydraulic? it is a fourwinds trailer with a 24 ft boat. I have a 2019 Ram 1500 and it has electric brake controls

I think your best solution will be to go to electric brakes on your trailer. It's a bit more economical, easier to install, and since you already have a brake controller in your Ram it's really pretty simple overall. Basically you will just replace your current hydraulic assemblies with electric ones and then run wire from them to the 7-way installed on the trailer. If you currently don't have a 7-way you'd want the 7-way upgrade kit # HS381-9000. This would come with everything needed to upgrade a 4 or 5-way to a 7-way.
I attached a help article that covers everything for adding electric brakes for you to check out as well.
