Replacement Reese Strait-Line Weight Distribution Spring Bars to Increase Weight Capacity
Question:
I have a 2019 Ford F250 with a toy hauler that has 725# on the tongue. The truck s 3.25 inches at the ball and the front raises 1.5 inches. The bars are for 800# and do not recover the loss on the ball and level the truck and have a serious bend. It looks like I could go to 1200# bars and they may be stronger and recover the . I am wondering if the trunnion bars are the same length throughout the Reese products and I can swap the bars or will I have to move and re-setup the entire sway system or replace other parts to make everything fit again?

The bar lengths for the various Reese Strait-Line systems are the same, so you can use two of part # RP66009 to upgrade system # RP66083 to a higher weight rating. A set of these bars handles tongue weight (TW) from 600- to 1200-lbs so your system will be able to do a lot more to prevent rear squat.
Most weight distribution systems can be fitted with more than one set of spring bars to allow you to keep the system and use it with a new trailer. Not all bars from the same brand will be interchangeable but often you will be able to replace just the bars to increase or decrease the system's weight capacity.
The Reese Strait-Line system # RP66083 has bars that work for tongue weight (TW) from 400- to 800-lbs so your 725-lb TW is pretty close to its limit. Ideally your total TW will fall in the middle of the system's range. That total TW is the sum of the loaded trailer's actual TW (which can be measured with # e99044) plus the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of the truck, such as a generator. The total TW needs to be in the middle of the bar's range.
