How To Choose the Correct Roller or Carpeted Bunk Boards for a Trailer

Question:

I need to install new bunks on my trailer. I have a 16’ Starcraft that currently has 36” roller bunks on it with keel rollers. I want to either upgrade the rollers or use carpet bunks. Should I get longer rollers then 36” rollers or use carpet bunks? What size carpet bunks would be best for my boat and trailer and what kind of hardware is needed to attach these?

Expert Reply:

The size of bunk board or bunk roller you will need for your boat trailer is based off the hull size. However, generally speaking the manufacturer knows what size roller/bunk works best for the boat/trailer. Therefore I recommend using the same size that the trailer came with but it wouldn't hurt to go a bit longer if you have room. If you are switching from rollers to carpeted bunk boards then I would go longer.

For the carpeted bunk board option we have part # CE27800 which are 36" long, part # CE27810 which are 48", or even part # CE27840 which are 60" long. In order to attach these bunk boards to the trailer you can use the CE Smith Bolster and Swivel Bracket Assemblies part # CE10000G-4.

For the roller bunk board option we have part # CE27700 which are 48" long or part # CE27710 which are 60" long. These can then be attached to your trailer with the CE Smith Bolster and Swivel Bracket Assemblies for Roller Bunks part # CE10003G-4. These will make life much easier when compared to the carpeted bunk board option but they are also more cost effective.

I have attached photos on the above two options for you.
