Will Installing Trailer Wiring Disable the Backup Sensors and Alarm on a 2008 Land Rover LR 2
Question:
I have a 2008 Land Rover LR2. It has back up sensors in the bumper and an alarm sounds if vehicle is in danger of backing into something. These back up alarms apparently sound continuously if a trailer is towed. The OEM wiring harness stops the alarm from sounding when towing. Does your part C59496 address this issue? If not, what would you recommend? Pulling fuse or unpluging the speaker?

There are some things to consider first. I do not recommend pulling the fuse for the back up sensors or disconnecting anything in the system because there may be a time when you forget to reconnect it and you might need it.
Also, the sensors and alert should only go off when you are in reverse. While driving forward, the alarm should not go off. So you have to consider how much you will be backing up and if that is really enough to make you want to disable the system.
Adding the trailer wiring, # C59496, will not disable the sensors or alarm. If you really wanted to go that route and the factory harness does that for you, then that would be the way to go. There may also be a way to turn down the alert or turn it off completely without pulling any wiring. That information may be in your owners manual.
I have included a link to the installation instructions for the wiring harness for you.
