Troubleshooting No 12V Power at 7-Way on 1986 Chevy Truck

Question:

I recently bought an electric jack for my trailer and I don’t seem to get 12 volt power. I have a 86 Chevy Truck . Everything else works from trailer plug but I don’t seem to get 12 volt power. I also bought a curt echo wireless controller and it will not power while plugged in either. Can you reccoment how to fix this problem?

You either have a blown fuse under the hood or the 12V circuit on the 7-Way simply isn't active/connected on your 1986 Chevy truck.

If the truck happened to come equipped with a factory 7-Way then there should be a fuse dedicated to the 12V pin circuit inside the main fuse block under the hood. You will need to check your copy of the owner's manual for its location and see if it needs to be replaced.

If not then you can simply manually run a length of 10 gauge wire like # 10-1-1 (sold by the foot) from the back of the 7-Way (at the 11 o'clock pin) up to the truck's battery via a 40 amp breaker like # 9510.
