Can a Regular 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch be Used with the Reese Elite Install Kit on a 2008 Dodge Ram
Question:
I was curious as to the different prices for the two models listed, as the other was about $100 more. Also, this kit will only work with the Elite or Signature models of hitches, and those are over $1,000 for the ones you have listed. Are there any in that line that are under that price? I only require a 16k maximum hitch rating. Thank you.

There is one Reese Underbed 5th wheel isntallation kits for the 2008 Dodge Ram 3500 long bed. We have # RP30074 and it will fit trucks with or without overload springs AND mega cab models. I have included a link to the installation details for you and a link to a video showing a typical installation.
The Elite series, being the top of the line, are priced higher than other hitches. If you wanted to use a different hitch with the underbed system, you can use the Reese Rail Kit Mounting Adapter, # RP30156. It fits into the power pucks of the Elite system and then you can use a hitch that mounts in regular rails in this adapter.
For a 16K and 4k tongue weight hitch, the most economical is the Curt, # C16115. Even with adding in the cost of the adapter, you will be saving quite a bit over the cost of a complete Elite series set up.
