Expert Reply:
If your 2009 Ford F-150 4x4 has a manual-shift transfer case (it will have 2H, 4H, N, and 4L on it) then you can flat tow it with all 4 wheels on the ground. Since it sounds like this is what you have I recommend using the following parts to flat tow your F-150:
Base Plate Kit - Demco Classic Base Plate Kit # DM9518296
Tow Bar/Safety Cables - Demco Excali-Bar III # DM9511013
Tow Bar Wiring - Flexo-Coil Wiring Kit # RM-15267
Braking System - SMI Stay-IN-Play DUO # SM99251 (motorhome with hydraulic brakes) OR SMI Air Force One # SM99243 (motorhome with air brakes)
You will also need the Relay Kit # RM-88400 and possibly a high-low adapter (see attached link).
I like the Demco tow bar and base plate kit combination mainly because Demco has adapters for most base plates which means you can use the tow bar for years down the road. The wiring and braking systems are one-time installations that are very easy to set up when you get ready to tow your pickup.
I have attached videos and helpful articles that you can reference as well.
