Can a Tekonsha Prodigy P2 Be Installed on a 2019 Audi Q5 with Tow Package
Question:
Hello, I just bought a new 2019 Audi Q5 with a factory tow package. My previous vehicle was equipped with a Prodigy P2 brake controller, and I am wondering if I would be able to use the same controller on the new Audi?

Yes, you can reuse the Tekonsha Prodigy P2 Trailer Brake Controller part # 90885 on your 2019 Audi Q5. However, you are going to need a few parts: Replacement Mounting Bracket for Tekonsha Prodigy and P2 part # P7685, Mounting Pocket for Tekonsha Prodigy Proportional Brake Controller part # 7686, and the Pigtail Wiring Harness for Tekonsha and Draw-Tite Brake Controllers part # 7894. In addition to these three parts you will also need a factory brake controller pigtail that must be obtained from the dealer. The factory brake controller pigtail will get spliced together with the Pigtail Wiring Harness for Tekonsha and Draw-Tite Brake Controllers to allow for plug and play installation. Please note that the brake controller port that you will plug the above two harnesses (once joined) into is located behind the driver dash so you will need to remove some trim panels and allow for some time to find this.
Unfortunately, we have not yet installed a standard brake controller on a 2019 Audi Q5 yet so I don't have any further information on where the brake controller port is located. The majority of our customers with this vehicle will use a wireless brake controller like the Curt Echo Mobile Trailer Brake Controller part # C51180 so they don't need to make any modifications.
The Echo is a relatively new brake controller that is gaining a lot of popularity. It just plugs into the 7-way and you use your phone to customize settings and activate the manual override. The other major reason as to the growing popularity of this brake controller is because it uses a device you are already comfortable using (your phone), you do not need to read an entire comprehensive manual and familiarize yourself with the controls and codes to use it. Please note that if your phone loses power the brake controller will still function as normal.
