Are Longer Lug Studs Required for Aluminum Wheels on 2008 Flagstaff MAC 228D
Question:
I have a standard no mods 2008 Flagstaff MAC 228D currently with steel wheels and want to upgrade to these aluminum wheels with radial tires. Will I need to install longer lug bolts onto the hubs? I dont know the length of the bolts unless I get the camper out of storage, remove a wheel and measure. Maybe I need to use the longer castle? type lug nuts. I just want to make sure there will be enough threads to safely engage the lug nuts. I had a wheel come off once and I never want to do that again!

The Aluminum Hi-Spec Series S5 Trailer Wheel - 13" x 5" Rim - 5 on 4-1/2 - Silver # AM22323HWT will work well on your 2008 Flagstaff MAC 228D. You will not need to remove the current lug studs and trade them out. The current ones will work just fine. There are steel inserts in the aluminum wheels so they will keep the lug nuts from coming loose over time. I recommend using the Lionshead Trailer Wheel Lug Nut - 1/2"-20 - Stainless Steel # LHLR103. You may also want the locking set # RG01-150 to deter theft.
For a tire, I recommend the Loadstar ST185/80D13 Bias Trailer Tire - Load Range D # AM1ST79. These have an 81 mph speed rating.
