Demco Hijacker Autoslide 5th Wheel Hitch Options for a 2006 Chevy Silverado with a Short Bed

Question:

Hello, I am looking to install this hitch on a 2006 Chevy short box truck. Will it fit? If not what do you recommend with auto slide for 5th wheel camper? We are also looking for an air bag suspension kit with compressor. Thank you kindly, Demco Hijacker Autoslide 5th Wheel Hitch w/ Slider - Single Jaw - Ford Super Duty Prep Package - 21K

We do have Demco Autosliding 5th wheel hitches for your 2006 Chevy Silverado with the short bed but the Demco Hijacker # DM8550038 that you referenced is designed to fit the unique puck system found on Ford pickups.

For a 1500 that is not a Flareside or Stepside then you can use the Universal Base Rail Kit # DM8552009-71 to use the 18K # DM8550034 or 21K # DM8550035 Demco Hijacker. This kit does require drilling.

If you happen to have a 2500 instead then I recommend using the Custom Base Rail Kit # DM8552012-71 over the Universal kit because the custom kit doesn't require drilling. You would use the same 18K or 21K Hijacker with these base rails.

The only time you won't be able to use the 18K or 21K Hijacker is if you have a 5-1/2' bed. In this case you would need to use the 13K Hijacker # DM8550040 with the Universal Rail Kit # DM8552009-71 because this has 22-1/2" of travel that is needed for the 5-1/2' bed.

No matter the bed length I also recommend installing the Bargman # 50-97-410 wiring to make connecting/disconnecting your trailer wiring much easier. Attached is an installation video of this on a 2006 Chevy Silverado for you to check out.

We have a variety of air bag and compressor kits which you can find listed in the attached links. If you can give me some insight as to whether you have a 1500 LD, 1500 HD, or 2500 and if you have a 2WD or 4WD I can help you narrow down the options by making a recommendation for you.
