Parts Needed to Install 7-Way and Brake Controller in 2006 Ford Explorer
Question:
I bought this wiring harness because it said it would fit my 2006 Ford Explorer. Mine does not have the plug behind the back bumper for this harness to plug into. Is there any other wiring harness that would work with my vehicle. Its for towing a pop-up camper that needs electric brakes.

Your 2006 Ford Explorer should have came with a factory 7-way or at least the round connector that the Curt 7-way part # C55774 is designed to connect to. It's possible someone removed yours or if it was a fleet vehicle of some type it may have not came with it. We can help you wire in trailer wiring either way though.
What you'd need is a universal fit style of 4-way like the part # C59496 to give you the taillight functions and then to convert to a 7-way and install a brake controller for your trailer brakes you'd want the install kit part # ETBC7.
The brake controller I recommend is the Prodigy P3 part # 90195 because this brake controller senses the amount of braking your tow vehicle is applying and puts a proportional amount of braking on the trailer's brakes. It also has a display that uses full words instead of codes that would have to be deciphered. It's our best selling brake controller because of how well it works, how reliable it is, and how easy it is to use.
