Recommendation for Corrosion Resistant Roller Bunks for Building Boat Ramp

Question:

Hi, I am looking at your roller assemblies for bunk replacements. I live on a salt water lagoon and would like to build a wood ramp with your rollers attached to the top so I could keep my 21’ Bayliner deck boat out of the water. It sounds like your rails are galvanized but your bolts that hold the wheels are just zinc plated. That wouldn’t last long where I’m at. Also, the bottom 3’ or so will likely always be in the water. Do you have any suggestions on which of your products would work best? Do you offer stainless steel bolts in place of zinc? Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks

For your particular setup I recommend going with the Dutton-Lainson Boat Trailer Deluxe Roller Bunks # DL21741 which feature a 12-gauge galvanized steel construction to prevent any corrosion. As you mentioned in your question these bunks do include zinc-plate hardware which will do a decent job of resisting corrosion but may not be the best option for your application where a portion of the bunks will actually be continuously submerged.

What I recommend doing is simply swapping out the hardware with stainless steel or galvanized bolts that can be sourced locally. We do not have hardware like this currently available but it shouldn't be too hard to find what you are needing at a local hardware store. This may be a better option anyway since you are using the bunks for a more custom application.

These bunks feature a 3,000 pound capacity and measure 5 feet long. We have had many customers use these to build boat ramps like what you are doing and they've worked perfectly (see attached photos).
