Recommended Tow Bar for Blue Ox Base Plate Kit on a 2006 Jeep Wrangler

Typically I would recommend a Blue Ox tow bar for the Blue Ox Base Plate Kit # BX1120 on your 2006 Jeep Wrangler but we actually carry the Demco Commander II # DM9511012-BX which comes with adapters for a Blue Ox base plate kit and is what I recommend going with.

Reason being that the Blue Ox equivalent, the Alpha # BX7380, is more of a standard tow bar whereas the Commander has an adjustable head unit, a self-aligning design, arms that can be folded multiple different ways for storage, and a built-in storage rod for a coiled umbilical like what comes with the wiring kit # RM-15267.

Another perk of using the Demco over the Blue Ox is that there are a variety of adapters for the Commander so that it can be compatible with a wide variety of base plate kits which means the chances of you having to get a different tow bar for a future vehicle are highly unlikely.

Please note that a complete flat towing setup also includes vehicle tow bar wiring, a supplemental braking system, and possibly a high-low adapter. If you go with the above-mentioned wiring kit (which I recommend doing) then this just leaves you with a braking system and possibly a high-low adapter (which is less likely since the head of the Commander is adjustable).

For a braking system I highly recommend the Blue Ox Patriot 3 # BLU37TR because it can easily be transferred to a future vehicle and is compatible with the active power assist braking system on your Wrangler. Please note that you do need the Relay Kit # RM-88400 as well to ensure that your lights are working properly. Since this system draws power from the battery it is also a good idea to install the Charge Line Kit # RM-156-25 as well to keep your battery from draining. Simply connect is to the positive post on your battery and the center pin on the wiring mentioned above and you are good to go!
