Trailer Hitch Fit for 2002 Dodge Ram 1500

Question:

2002 dodge ram 1500 4x4 8 reg cab. looking for a class v hitch but seriously confused. I dont want to order the wrong thing. My truck build date is 03/2002. However, I have the new body style, not the old one. From what videos I watched I have the frame of the 2003-2008, not the 1988-2002 frame or body. Apparently the 2003 curt 15409 hitch will not fit because my truck was built before 11/2003 but I dont understand how the previous truck model hitch with a completely different frame will fit, which would be the 15300 curt hitch. I dont want to order the wrong thing and I need the hitch very soon.

I reached out to the hitch manufacturers regarding your situation and was told that for your 2002 Dodge Ram 1500 with an 8' bed and production date of 03/2002 there is not a Class V hitch that will fit, nor is there a Class IV hitch.

The Curt Class III Trailer Hitch # 13326 is the one with the most capacity that will fit (assuming you do not have a factory hitch) and it's capacity is 5,000 lbs towing and 500 lbs tongue weight. That capacity is doubled to 10,000 lbs towing and 1,000 lbs tongue weight when you use the hitch with weight distribution such as the an Equal-i-zer # EQ37100ET.

Please keep in mind the tow rating you need to go by is the lowest-rated component, whether that is your truck's capacity or the hitch, even with a weight distribution system. I have added a link to the Curt # 13326 being installed on an '02 Ram for you to take a look at.
