Troubleshooting Trailer Wiring Circuit Tester Not Able to Show Brake Controller Connection

Question:

I recently installed wiring for a Tekonsha P3 brake controller in my 2011 Honda Odyssey. I dont yet have access to the trailer Im going to be pulling, so I used a 7-way tester to check my wiring. Everything seems to be in order except for the fact that the Tekonsha shows no trailer connectedinch with the tester in. The light on the tester for the brake controller signal lights up when I slide the manual lever, so I feel confident that my blue wire has a good connection all the way to the back. Is the no trailer connected message because Im hooked up to the tester and not an actual trailer, or do I have a grounding problem somewhere?

Brake controllers don't always show a trailer connection when connected to a circuit tester because they are looking for a larger amperage draw on the circuit from brake magnets to know a trailer is connected. Circuit testers often use a small LED indicator light which isn't enough of a draw for a controller to think a trailer is connected. Sounds like everything is connected and working well but you'll have to find a trailer to get a real test.
