Parts Needed to Add a Trailer Brake Controller to a 2007 Honda Pilot
Question:
I have a Honda 2007 Pilot EX-L 4WD, I would like to install the Tekonsha P3. I have not had the dealer install the trailer hitch yet.. What wiring accessories do I need to buy from etrailer in addition to the P3, and should I have the dealer install the honda wiring harness ??

In order to install a brake controller like the Tekonsha P#, # 90195, you will need a 7-Way trailer connector, the brake controller, and wiring to attach the controller to the 2007 Honda Pilot. If your Pilot does not already have a wiring harness of any kind, you will first need to install Tow Ready Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring, # 118336. The wiring harness you referenced fits a 2009 to 2011 Pilot and will not work on your 2007.
You could have the Honda harness installed by the dealer, but most people choose to go with aftermarket parts because they are less expensive and, in this case, easy to install at home. I have included a link to the installation details for the wiring harness and a video showing a typical installation.
After you have a wiring harness installed, you will need to add the 7-Way using a 4- and 7-Way Installation Kit, # ETBC7. This kit comes with everything you will need to install a 7-Way and it has the wiring you will need to install the brake controller.
I have included a link to an FAQ and a video that explain the installation of an ETBC7. You may also need a circuit tester like # PTW2993 if you do not already have one.
You have mentioned getting a hitch, I recommend taking a look at our selection of hitches which I have linked for you. The manufacturers we carry are leaders in the industry and are much more cost effective than a dealership.
