Can the MaxxTow Magnetic Tow Lights Be Hardwired Directly to a Tow Vehicle

Question:

I have an old Willys with no directional signals. I bought the MT70097 to tow the vehicle to events but also to attach the magnetic lights to the back and take it for short runs to the gas station. If I hook it up the a switch/relay/fuse/battery configuration, what relay due I need to operate the LED directional signals? Thanks

The MaxxTow Magnetic Tow Lights part # C6304 are designed to be placed on a towed vehicle and then powered using a four way trailer connector on a tow vehicle. The four way trailer connector on the tow vehicle is then likely ran through an integrated trailer lighting circuit which contains fuses, relays, and power from the battery.

If you wanted to wire the MaxxTow Magnetic Tow Lights directly to the towed vehicle then you could use pretty much any standard automotive relay and switch but you would want to make sure they are appropriately rated for the amperage draw of the lights. We do not currently carry a surplus of automotive relays but we do have the Relay Wiring Kit part # MM510 which you should be able to make work for you. The relay may be rated a bit high for the tow lights but would still protect the vehicle's wiring nonetheless.

If you need help wiring the relay and tow lights it would be best to consult an automotive electrician.
