Recommended Tow Bar, Base Plates and Accessories to Flat Tow a 1992 Honda Accord

Question:

I have a 92 Honda accord and I am needing base plates and a 5000 lb tow bar that attaches to that base plate. Which do you recommend? Thanks

For your 1992 Honda Accord, I would recommend the Roadmaster Base Plate Kit, part # 1526-1. This kit fits both the coupe and sedan models.

I would then recommend the Roadmaster Falcon 2 tow bar, part # RM-520. The Falcon 2 has a 6000 lb capacity, and features telescoping arms that automatically lock and center. For more details about the Falcon 2, take a look at the product demonstration video I have linked to.

Safety cables like part # RM-643 will be needed.

You will also need to tie in the Accord tail lights to those of the tow vehicle. The best way to do this will depend on several factors, with how often you will be towing the Accord being the most important. If you are not going to tow the Accord very often, a magnetic mount lighting system like part # RM-2120 would be a good choice. This system is easy to set up, and will remain completely independent of the wiring system of your Accord. If you were planning on towing more frequently and would prefer a more permanent solution, a Tail Light Isolating Diode System like part # 38955 would be a better choice. I will link you to a video showing the system being installed on a 2010 Honda Fit. The procedure for your Accord would be very similar.

Most states require a supplemental braking system, like the Roadmaster Even Brake part # RM-9400. Your state Highway Patrol or DOT should be able to provide information about the regulations applicable to your state.

You will also want to carefully read the section in your owners manual about emergency towing, and follow any procedures and recommendations listed there.
