Recommended Electric Trailer Brake Controller and Wiring for 2012 Jeep Liberty
Question:
AM ABOUT TO ORDER A HITCH AND BRAKE CONTROL. FOUND AN ELECT. CONNECTOR STRAIGHT DOWN FROM THE GAS PEDEL UNDER THE DASH, WHATS IT FOR. IF ITS A BRAKE CONTROL CONNECTOR , I DIDNT SEE ANY WIRING HANGING DOWN BEHIND THE REAR BUMPER.

Without a factory 7-way, you wont' have an electric brake wiring harness in your 2012 Jeep Liberty. I believe the wiring harness you are referring to above your gas pedal is likely to be your code connection, but am sure it is not a brake controller connection. The models even with the factory 7-way don't have a harness under the dash, so running wire will be required.
I recommend using the # ETBC7 Universal Wiring Kit for your vehicle. If you don't already have the 4-way trailer connector, I recommend using # 118554 which will connect behind your tail lights and draw power directly from your vehicle battery. I've attached a video to assist.
For a brake controller, the most popular options are the Prodigy P3 # 90195 and the RedArc Tow Pro Elite # RED44FR. Both of these are great options so it just depends on the style preference and if you like the LCD screen or the LED lights to help with functions. I've attached videos of these options to help with the functions of each.
