Troubleshooting 7-Way on Vehicle Not Plugging Into 7-Way on Trailer

Question:

Good morning, I used the following instructions below from etrailer.com and exact parts to install the brake controller on my Chevy Avalanche. Everything worked great, except.....it feels like the plug attached to my RV trailer, is not fully plugging into the Hopkins Multi-Tow connector that I installed on the back of the truck. It goes in so loose, that if I lift up on the spring loaded latch/cover, the plug just falls out. I assume it pushes in further, but Ive pushed the heck out of it, and even added dielectric grease, and it just wont go further. Thanks for any advice.

It sounds like there may be some debris or dirt inside the pins of your trailer's 7-Way that is preventing the Hopkins Connector # 30955 from completely plugging in. I recommend inspecting the pins of the connector on your trailer for anything that you can see - debris, dirt, rust, corrosion, etc - and try to clean them out as best you can. Also try and see if there might be a bent pin that is causing the issue.

If this doesn't resolve the problem please let me know and we can continue to troubleshoot.
