Draw-Tite # 24847 vs Curt # C11276 for Carrying Bike Rack with 2014 Toyota Prius

Question:

We are looking for a hitch for our 2014 Prius Sedan to use for a Bike Wing 2 bike carrier strap to tires for 2 Faraday Power-assist Bikes. We are currently comparing the Draw-Tite #24847 and Curt #11276. We are attracted to the Draw-Tite because it appears to extend further from the bumper thinking that might be safer in preventing the handle bars from hitting the wind scoop on the back window ???. However, we do have questions: 1 Are these the correct hitches for the 2014 Prius or do you have other recommendations? 2 Are both hitches made in the USA? 3 It appears that the Curt is a little heavier, but both have the same weight capacity. Which one is more sturdy for our application I think the bikes weigh about 35 pounds? 4 Do you have any additional comments or recommendations to help us with our decision?

Helpful Expert Reply:

The better hitch for carrying a bike rack with your 2014 Toyota Prius is the Draw Tite part # 24847 because unlike the Curt # C11276 it does not require you use a stabilizer strap like # 18050 with a non-supported load like a bike rack. That said, only the Curt is made in the USA and the Draw Tite in Mexico.
