Trailer Hitch and Bike Rack Recommendation for 2019 Chevy Sonic Hatchback

Question:

I have a 2019 Chevy Sonic hatchback. I really love riding my bike and I need to put a trailer hitch on the Sonic. My bike rack only fits a 2 inch hitch so I know I'll need one that fits a 1-1/4 inch hitch. What hitch would you say is the best for this car and what bike rack would your recommend?

The trailer hitch I recommend for your 2019 Chevy Sonic is the Curt # C11464 because it is an easy bolt-on installation that will not require drilling into your Sonic's frame to install.

Like you said, the available hitches for your Sonic have a 1-1/4 inch receiver, and they are Class I rated. This means that the bike rack you get would also have to be rated for a Class I hitch. The one I recommend checking out the Kuat Sherpa 2.0 because it offers a superb combination of function and style. The Sherpa 2.0 comes in your choice of colors: Gray # SH12G, Black # SH12B, or Pearl # SH12P.

This is a wheel-mount rack which uses ratcheting hooks to grasp your bikes by the front wheels, eliminating any frame contact with your bikes; it also has rear-wheel cradles with ratcheting straps to secure your bike's rear wheels.

The Sherpa 2.0 can be tilted down - even with the bikes loaded - with the press of a handy foot lever, and can also fold up for when the bikes are not being carried. It does not require any tools to install into your hitch as you'll only need to turn a knob to tighten the rack in the hitch; this also works as an anti-rattle device so you can get a quiet ride.

Additionally, the Sherpa 2.0 comes with a hitch lock to secure the rack to your '19 Sonic and a cable lock to secure your bikes to the rack, helping protect your investments. You can check out an example of how this rack looks from the accompanying photos which a customer sent in.

This is a lightweight, 32 lb rack which has a weight capacity of 40 lbs per bike and fits bikes with tire widths up to 3" and wheelbases up to 47".
