In order to flat tow your 2018 GMC Canyon behind your motorhome you will need a base plate kit, a tow bar, safety cables, a lighting solution, a supplemental braking system, and most likely a high-low adapter.

Starting with the base plates I recommend the Roadmaster EZ5 # RM-523182-5 because of its extremely clean design that's virtually invisible when you aren't towing the truck. The base plates use hidden brackets for attachment and eliminate the need for a quick-disconnect crossbar on the tow bar.

For a tow bar that will work perfectly with these base plates on your Canyon I recommend the Roadmaster Falcon All Terrain # RM-522 that features a 6,000 pound capacity and a non-binding design that allows you to release your truck at any time, even when on unlevel ground. Its extra-long telescoping arms also allow for better maneuverability and an easier overall towing experience. For safety cables you can add the Roadmaster # RM-643.

Now for a wiring harness that will allow you to wire the Canyon so that it accepts your RV's signal lights I recommend the Roadmaster Diode Kit # RM-15267. This kit includes a 6-Way connector that you will mount to the front of the truck and enough coiled wiring to go from there to the 7-Way on the motorhome. The included diodes will prevent any feedback from the RV as well.

According to your Canyon's owner's manual the battery does need to be disconnected for flat towing. To simplify this process I recommend adding the Automatic Battery Disconnect # RM-766 that will let you disconnect the battery with the flip of a switch.

Then for a supplemental braking system I highly recommend the SMI Stay-IN-Play DUO # SM99251 because it offers a maintenance free setup after the initial installation. This proportional system will activate the truck's brakes a the same time and with the same intensity that you apply to them in the RV and its hidden design allows you to keep everything in place whether you're towing the truck or driving it for everyday use.

Lastly, you will likely need a high-low adapter in order to keep the tow bar within the "Safe Zone" (3 inches above or below level). I have attached an article that explains how to choose the best one for your setup along with a link that will take you to our available selection.

I have also included helpful install videos and instructions on the products mentioned that you can check out.
