Is a Dual Jaw System Better Than a Slide Bar System for a 2018 Ram 2500 Without Pucks

Question:

My current Reese pro 16k slider with slide bar is ok but tends to knock back and forth on acceleration and quick braking. Although it seems to be locked in travel mode and I watch it from the mirror its still un-nerving as Im told this normal. My new Ram has an 8ft bed no mounts so a slider is not needed and I believe a dual jaw will eliminate the back and forth. Your thoughts?. I pull a Win 27 rkfs 8k lbs so I believe a 16 k is enough....do you have a set-up for me with and install kit and rails at a reasonable price. Prices are all over the place on the enternet .Thanks in advance for any help...

You are absolutely right! The slide bar design you have now is a good entry level setup but as you mentioned there is a good amount of chucking and jarring that is associated with this. The reason for this is because there is just a flat edge against the round kingpin which works but does not produce the best ride.The dual locking jaws are going to do a much better job of holding the kingpin tighter which translates to minimal chucking and jarring.

For your 2018 Ram 2500, I recommend taking a look at the Curt A16 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch part # C16120 with the Curt Custom Fifth Wheel Installation Kit part # C16427-204. The Curt A16 has an interlocking dual jaw system which is even better than just a standard dual jaw system because it provides more security. The head is also fully articulating which will help with coupling the trailer on an unlevel surface. The best feature in my option is the one pin head removal which makes removing and installing the hitch very easy on the back. The install kit is a custom fit so no drilling into the frame is required.

I also recommend using an in-bed 7-way like the Curt 5th Wheel/Gooseneck Custom Wiring Harness part # C56070 for easy wiring connections. I have attached review/install videos for you.
