Recommended Tire Chains for 2018 Subaru Outback Wagon
Question:
Looks like I have 225-60-R18 does this change the recommendation at all? From the first note, the latter set (Glaciers) seems more down the line of what I'd be going for. Thanks!

I took a look at the online version of the owner's manual for your 2018 Subaru Outback and it does state that the vehicle has very limited wheel well clearance. This means you will want to go with a tire chain set that is Class S compatible, which simply indicates that they are specifically designed for vehicles like yours and will require very little clearance to install. It also states that traction devices should only be used on the front tires.
I do recommend checking your copy of the manual for any other restrictions or requirements.
The most common tire size for your Outback is a 225/65-17. If this is what you have the Pewag Servo Self-Tensioning Chains # PWRS79 will be the best option both in terms of performance and ease of installation with their ratcheting servo device that allows for a snug fit and the square link diagonal pattern chains that offer excellent traction in the snow and ice.
If you really think it's unlikely that you will use them much though then I recommend going with the more economical Glacier Cable Snow Tire Chains # PW1042. These cables are great for occasional use and are a low cost option to keep you legal while on the road in California. I have attached a video demonstration of these being installed on a 2017 model Outback that you can check out.
Both options mentioned above are Class S rated and include two chains so they will work great on your vehicle.
If you happen to have a different tire size than what I mentioned please let me know and I will be happy to make a different recommendation.
