Recommended Trailer Hitch and Transmission/Oil Cooler for 2019 Chevy Impala
Question:
Hello. I am looking to do some light towing with my 18 Chevy Impala and first need a hitch but also thinking a transmission/oil cooler to help keep everything running cool. Can you make some recommendations? See a Curt and Draw-tite hitch but they look pretty similar.

Starting with the hitch I recommend the Curt Class II Receiver # C12115 because it features a slightly higher tongue weight capacity (350 pounds) than the Draw-Tite model also available for your Impala and is made right here in the USA. It features a 3,500 pound towing weight limit and will use existing holes in the vehicle's frame for a no-drill installation.
I have attached an installation video that you can use for reference.
I do recommend verifying the towing capacities of your 2018 Impala by checking your copy of the owner's manual. You will just need to follow whichever limit is lower, he vehicle's or the hitch's.
A transmission and oil cooler is a great idea for your Impala to help extend the life of the transmission since it will have to work a lot harder when pulling a trailer. I recommend taking a look at the Derale Combination Transmission and Engine Oil Cooler # D15902. Aftermarket coolers aren't custom fit for specific vehicles so you will just want to make sure you have enough room between the grille and AC condenser core to mount the unit. This cooler measures 17 inches wide, 12-1/2 inches tall, and 3/4 inches deep.
In order to tow a trailer you will also need a trailer wiring harness if you don't already have one. For this I recommend the Tekonsha T-One # 118590. This custom harness will install by plugging into factory ports inside the trunk and behind the tail lights to provide you with a 4-Way connector to power a trailer's basic signal lights.
I have attached the written installation instructions that you can take a look at.
