The Roadmaster Base Plates, # 4408-1, do fit the 2008 Ford Edge. As far as installation Roadmaster does state that installation requires moderate mechanical aptitude and skills. They strongly recommend professional installation by an experienced installer. The installation of these base plates does require remove the front exterior body panels of the vehicle. We have not yet had the opportunity to install the base plates on a vehicle so I do not have a video.

In addition to the base plates you will need a compatible tow bar, safety cables, lighting, and supplemental braking. For a tow bar, the most popular option for XL style base plates is the Falcon 2, # RM-520. I have included a link to the installation details and a link to a video review of the tow bar for you.

For safety cables, I recommend the Coiled Cables, # RM-643. The coiled design helps keep the cables from touching the ground. For lighting there are a few options. If you will towing the vehicle frequently, I recommend installing diodes using kit # RM-154. I have included a link to a video showing a typical installation. If you do not plan on towing it frequently, you can use a magnetic kit, # RM-2120.

Most states now require a supplemental braking system on the vehicle being towed. The easiest system to set up and use is the Even Brake, # RM-9400, which is a proportional system that applies the vehicle brakes in proportion to how much the towing vehicle is braking. Proportional systems are the safest way to stop and reduce wear and tear on both vehicles.

I have included a link to our series of FAQ articles on flat towing for you. You will also need to consult your vehicle owners manual for additional specific information on towing the vehicle.
