Tire Chain Recommendation For 2017 Subaru Legacy Sport Size 225/50-18
Question:
My tires are 225/50-18, and the owners manual says no chains can be used for the car. Can cables be used instead, if so, should I buy 1 pair or 2 pairs for AWD?

I have a really great zero-clearance solution that fits your tire size of 225/50-18 but the final authority on whether a vehicle can use cables or chains is the vehicle manufacturer. The best option that we have though is the Konig K-Summit Chains part # TH02230K44 as they do not drape of the inner sidewall of the tire at all which is where the clearance issues are. I attached a picture that shows what I mean. What's also really great about these is that they install easily, they offer rim protection, provide much better traction than cables, and they will last a long time.
You might show this chain setup to a Subaru dealer (preferably one near mountains), and see if they'd okay you to use them.
