Tekonsha Prodigy Trailer Brake Controller to Replace Factory Unit in 2018 Ram 3500
Question:
I want to get away from the factory brake controller in my Ram. I used to have a Tekonsha P2 and it worked fine for years and years but when I replaced that truck I mistakenly thought I was getting a better setup with the factory unit. Experience has taught me otherwise. I tow lots of different trailers and some have EOH brakes. I want to put a Tekonsha back in my new Ram 3500. What do I have to do and what unit should I use?

Your very good owner experience with your old Prodigy P2 # 90885 mirrors that of most owners, who rate the P2 and the P3 # 90195 highly for their easy set up and reliable performance. The Tekonsha brake controllers do tend to last a long time.
For your 2018 Ram 3500 I recommend the P3 # 90195 along with the custom wiring adapter # 3024-P which connects it to the port under the dash. This is shown in the included photo. I also linked an installation video showing a P3 being installed in a Ram 3500.
Before installing the P3 you will need to have your local dealer disconnect the truck's ITBM brake module. This requires having your local Dodge dealer reconfigure the TIPM (Totally Integrated Power Module) which will eliminate any annoying error messages. The linked article explains this process is greater detail.
