Will Stromberg Carlson Trailer Tray Cargo Carrier Add to Trailer Tongue Weight

Question:

My concern is if I add the A-Frame cargo carrier to my travel trailer how do I know adding 100lbs of generator weight doesnt over load the tongue weight capacity of my hitch? I plan to carry 2 Yamaha EF2000iSv2 1600/2000 watt inverter generators - full fuel weight about 50lbs each = 100lbs total. My tow vehicle is a 2007 Ford Lariat F150 SuoerCrew 4wd with factory trailer package. Im going to pull a 2016 Forest River Cruise Lite 241QBXL with a 499lb tongue weight. i have a weight distribution sway control hitch. How do i know Im not over loading the tongue weight? Or is there such an issue? Thanks

Mounting the Stromberg Carlson Trailer Tray Cargo Carrier # CC-255 to your trailer will definitely add to its tongue weight. Both the weight of the carrier itself (65 pounds) and your loaded generators will contribute to the trailer's tongue weight. With this in mind you will be adding about 165 pounds of tongue weight to your Forest River Cruise Lite when using the carrier, giving you a total tongue weight of around 665 pounds using the information you provided.

To verify that the trailer hitch on your Ford F-150 can handle this weight you will just need to locate its specific tongue weight capacity. This information should be listed with a sticker right on the hitch itself or in your truck's owner's manual if a sticker can't be located. All of the trailer hitches we have available for your truck feature tongue weight capacities that far exceed 665 pounds when used with a weight distribution system but you will still want to check to be sure.

The other factor you will want to consider is if your existing weight distribution system will still be sufficient after adding this tongue weight. Make sure that your new total tongue weight (loaded tongue weight of trailer plus any additional cargo weight coming from behind the rear axle of the F-150) falls within the system's tongue weight range. If you can tell me what model system you currently have I will be happy to verify this for you.
