For your 2012 Acura TL the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class I - 1-1/4" # C11496 is the confirmed fit. I've attached the installation details for you to assist and have also attached the trimming diagram. The heat shield being removed completely can cause issues as there are very hot exhaust pipes exposed but in most situations this won't be an issue. The heat shield is there to keep anything touching the underside of your vehicle to not have direct contact with those parts.
This cannot cause a fire unless you have something flammable in contact with the exhaust that could by heat ignite it. I do recommend installing it because your vehicle does not have much ground clearance, so it is precautionary to reinstall.
